HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall Men's Soccer Team (4-2-4, 1-1-2 SBC) played to a 2-2 draw on Friday night against (RV) Georgia Southern at Hoops Family Field.
The Herd honored Alan Horrocks and Joao Roberto in a prematch ceremony on Senior Night for their contributions to the program.
"It's difficult to celebrate a draw," Herd Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie said. "You feel terrible about a draw, but that's football sometimes. It was wasted opportunity. It was two of the exact same goal. We have numbers around the ball and we just don't defend well. The game was definitely there for the taking."
Marshall was first to strike. In the 10th minute, Ramado Pierre-Louis laid off a pass for Nikita Pahkomov. Pahkomov then launched a shot from outside the 18-yard box past Georgia Southern goalkeeper Luca Maxim in the bottom corner to make it 1-0.
However, the Eagles answered at 23:18 mark with a goal from Mitch Picksley to even the score at 1-1.
Then in 29th minute, Haruhi Taneda picked off an Eagles clearance. Taneda then took advantage of the mistake and registered his first goal of the season to make it 2-1, the halftime score.
With the score still 2-1 in the 76th minute, the ball bounced around in the Herd's 18-yard box and deflected off Georgia Southern's Emil Cooper and into the Marshall goal to tie the contest 2-2, the eventual final as it ended in a draw.
