IRVING, Texas -Marshall's Kellie Schmitt won her second consecutive Conference USA women's tennis Player of the Month, as the sophomore went 7-3 in singles with wins over players ranked No. 7, No. 54 and No. 65. She became the first Marshall singles entrant into the All-American main draw.

Schmitt competed in two of the fall season's most prestigious tournaments in October. The sophomore began play at the ITA All-American winning over the No. 54 ranked player in straight sets to advance from the qualifier into the main draw, Marshall's first ever singles entrant in the main draw. In the main draw she lost in a hard-fought three-set match to the No. 3 ranked player nationally, but advanced into the tournament's consolation rounds. Once in the consolation, she defeated the nation's No. 65 player and the nation's No. 7 player, with both victories coming in straight sets.

In the ITA East Regional, Schmitt was seeded No. 1 and advanced into the tournament's semifinals (the deepest run for any Herd singles player and highest seed). In her five matches she faced top-caliber opponents defeating the East Region's 16th and 10th seeded players. Schmitt's lone loss came at the hands of the No. 88 player and tournament's No. 5 seed.

In doubles her performances were nearly as impressive as she and partner Lynzee Kever had a month record of 5-1 with three of the wins coming at the ITA East Regional.

Schmitt and Kever will be traveling in hopes of competing at the ITA Indoor Tennis Championships on Thursday in Columbus, Ohio. Schmitt was selected as the tournament's first alternate in singles competition and the duo will be the first alternates in doubles.
