HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall head coach Ron Jirsa has announced the signing of Demetrius Young, a 6'7 forward from Yuba (Calif.) College, to a National Letter of Intent. Young will be eligible for the Thundering Herd in the fall of 2007.

"Demetrius fits our style of play and runs extremely well," said Jirsa. "He has the ability to play the three or four position, and has an innate ability on the offensive glass."

The 6'7, 200-pound forward averaged 9 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last year, and shot 68.1% from the floor, the fourth-best field goal percentage for a junior college freshman in the country. His Yuba College team finished 23-10 in 2005-06.

"Demetrius is a great kid, and an unbelievably athletic player," said Yuba College head coach Doug Cornelius. "He is always smiling, laughing, and having fun. As a basketball player, he just finds a way to score, and he is one of the best rebounders I've ever seen. He goes after everything on the glass.

"He is a great find for Marshall, and will fit in nicely with the players and coaching staff there," said Cornelius.

The Sacramento, Calif., native was also being recruited by Bradley, Utah State, Long Beach State, and Portland State.
