NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Marshall women's basketball team begins its final road trip of the 2005-06 regular season when it travels to New Orleans, La., to take on the Tulane Green Wave on Friday at Fogelman Arena. The Thundering Herd will then move on to El Paso, Texas, for a Sunday showdown with the Miners. Friday's tip-off at TU is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST.

Marshall (13-10, 8-4 C-USA) has rebounded from its season-worst, five-game losing streak by winning its last three contests. Its recent surge moved the Herd into a second-place tie in the Conference USA standings with SMU (8-4), two games behind league leader Tulsa (10-2). Tulane currently sit in a tie for ninth place in the standings with UTEP, posting 5-7 conference marks.

Tulane's two-game win streak came to a close with Sunday's home loss to Rice, a game in which it never led. The Green Wave (11-10, 5-7 C-USA) is in the midst of a four-game home stand, opening the run of games on its home court with a win over Houston. Overall, TU has lost three of its last five games. TU is 6-5 at home this season, but 2-4 at Fogelman Arena in C-USA play.

Tulane took on two of Marshall's former Mid-American Conference rivals this season, defeating both Toledo and Miami (Ohio) in successive games earlier in the season.

Sophomore guard/forward Jennifer Sands leads the Green Wave in scoring (12.9) and rebounding (7.5). Sophomore forward Dominique Philpots blocks 1.2 shots per game and freshman Ashley Langford is the C-USA leader in assists at 5.6/game.

Marshall senior Sikeetha Shepard-Hall, the No. 3 all-time scorer in school history, is one point away from 1,500 career points. She scores a team-high 14.9 points per game while junior center Modupe Ishola is the team's leading rebounder (7.7).

Ishola has been on fire as of late, averaging 15.2 points, 8.6 rebounds and a block over the last five games. Twenty-five of her 43 rebounds in this span have been on the offensive glass. She also recorded back-to-back double-doubles in this stretch for the first time of her career and her five straight double-digit scoring games are a career-best.

Friday's game marks a homecoming for Marshall associate head coach Roxanne White, a Zwolle, La., native.

Tulane coach Lisa Stockton is sitting on 299 career wins in her 15th year of coaching, 12th at Tulane.

Friday's meeting will mark the first on the hardwood for Tulane and Marshall.

The Marshall-Tulane game can be heard live on Marshall's student station, WMUL 88.1-FM, which will also utilize a web broadcast at www.marshall.edu/wmul.
