HUNTINGTON - The Marshall University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will host the 2006 Sweetheart Clinic Sunday, Feb. 12. Girls age 12 and under are invited to participate. There is limited space and resources, so participants must pre-register individually on a first-come, first-served basis. No walk-up participants will be accepted.

Pre-registration, which will be conducted via e-mail only, will begin Wednesday, Jan. 25 through Friday, Feb. 11, or until the Clinic is full. To pre-register, please visit www.HerdZone.com and click the 2006 Sweetheart Clinic link at the bottom of the page. Registrants must provide their name, home address, telephone number, e-mail and age.

The Sweetheart Clinic, sponsored by Marshall Athletics, Papa John's Pizza, Aeropostale and Conference USA, began in 1998 in recognition of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Since its inception, nearly 1,000 girls have participated and had the opportunity to learn developmental skills in nine women's sports.

Participants will be divided into age groups and will rotate through nine different stations, learning developmental sports skills from Marshall coaches and student-athletes. In addition to developmental skill instruction, participants receive a free gift provided by C-USA and Aeropostale.

Check-in for participants will last 12:15-12:45 p.m. in Gullickson Gym. The Clinic will begin at 1 p.m. Following the Clinic, participants will enjoy a pizza party and an MU Cheerleaders-led pep rally sponsored by Pepsi and Papa John's Pizza. Participants will then be invited to attend the Marshall women's basketball nationally televised game against Memphis at 4:30 p.m. in the Cam Henderson Center.

The Clinic, including pizza party, pep rally and the women's basketball game, is free to participants. Parents and observers may purchase a ticket to the women's basketball game. Single-game tickets for women's basketball games are available for $5 for adults and $3 for children.

Registration information or questions regarding the Sweetheart Clinic may be sent to Sierra Davenport at davenport1@marshall.edu or by calling (304) 696-3394.
