Marshall Sports Information Garners Honors from CoSIDA

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced the winners of the organization's 2005-2006 publications contest and Marshall University has been awarded three "Best in the District" and one "Best in the Nation" award for its publications.
"It is an honor to receive this type of recognition from your peers and it is a credit to our entire staff," Marshall University Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations Randy Burnside said. "I am especially proud of our graduate assistants. To have them making this much of an impact early on in their careers speaks volumes."
The Thundering Herd's 2006 baseball schedule poster, which was designed by MU Sports Information graduate assistant Andy Fledderjohann, was selected as not only best in CoSIDA District 2, but the best in the nation out of 101 entries in the Division A category that includes all sports (major schools). The poster was selected ahead of the University of Nebraska's women's swimming and diving poster and the University of Texas' baseball poster that placed second and third, respectively.
CoSIDA's District 2 includes all of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware and the District of Columbia.
Marshall's 2006 softball media guide, designed and edited by MU Sports Information graduate assistant Chris Yandle, earned best in District 2 honors, finishing ahead of second place Towson University.
The Thundering Herd's 2006 women's tennis media guide, designed and edited by MU Sports Information graduate assistant Matt Riley, also earned best in District 2 honors, finishing ahead of the University of Maryland's tennis publication.
Only the University of Maryland, with four first-place honors, won more best in District 2 awards for its publications than Marshall. Maryland's men's basketball media guide and Marshall's baseball poster were the only two District 2 winners to earn "Best in the Nation" status.
