HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University head women's basketball coach Royce Chadwick announced today the hiring of former UCF star Adrienne "Ace" Billings as the Thundering Herd's new assistant coach.

Billings replaces Juliet Donahue on the Marshall bench, who moved to the post of director of basketball operations for the Herd.

Billings has held multiple coaching positions since her playing career at UCF ended just two years ago. She was an assistant coach for the Winning Ways Florida Classics, a 17-and-under AAU team, which won the Florida state championship in 2005. She then served as a graduate assistant coach at Wagner College last season before returning to UCF in the spring to assist in off-season workouts, summer camps and administrative duties.

"I feel very privileged to be here at Marshall," Billings said. "This is a great coaching staff and I'm looking forward to obtaining new knowledge from them.

"I thank Coach Chadwick for giving me this opportunity."

The Titusville, Fla., native was a four-year letterwinner for UCF, helping the Golden Knights to consecutive Atlantic Sun titles in 2003 and 2004. She ranks second in school history in rebounds (676), third in blocks (109) and paced the team in field goal percentage for three seasons.

Billings led UCF in points and rebounds in her freshman and sophomore campaigns, earning all-freshman and third team honors from the A-Sun in 2001. UCF, like Marshall, joined Conference USA for the 2005-06 season.

"Ace is a former player at a current C-USA school," Chadwick, entering his sixth season at Marshall, said. "She owns recruiting experience and brings a tremendous work ethic and great personality to our program. I look forward to an excellent season with her in our family."

Billings earned her bachelor's degree in political science from UCF in 2004.
