HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Former Marshall women's basketball player and graduate manager coach Jamie Kellerman has accepted a position at Jacksonville State University where she will serve as an assistant under the Gamecocks' newly named head coach Becky Geyer.

Kellerman, who played for the Thundering Herd from 2001-05, remained at Marshall after earning her bachelor's degree in effort to further learn the coaching trade under head coach Royce Chadwick. Her initial year on the bench came during the Herd's first season in Conference USA in 2005-06, and her second year will see her assist in Geyer's inaugural JSU coaching staff. She will work closely with the Gamecock guards and will help oversee the areas of scheduling, academics, community service and promotions.

"I'm very excited about this opportunity," Kellerman, 23, said. "I'm sad to be leaving Marshall, but, thanks to Coach Chadwick, I was able to learn a lot under a great group of coaches that has prepared me to join the staff at Jacksonville State."

Kellerman has a long history with Chadwick, dating back to her decision to attend Stephen F. Austin, Chadwick's last coaching stop, out of high school. Her move to Marshall was a far one from her native Houston, Texas, and it was directly related to Chadwick and associate head coach Roxanne White's decision to take over the Thundering Herd program.

"Jamie is a special person," Chadwick said. "She was set to go to Stephen F. Austin when we were there, but changed her mind to come to Marshall with us. Her sole intent was to play college basketball and learn how to coach from Roxanne, John (Sutherland) and myself.

"We are all so very proud of her and we wish her great success. Her enthusiasm for college basketball will make her a perennial winner."

Geyer has 16 years of coaching experience and, like Kellerman, got a taste of C-USA basketball in 2005-06 while she was an assistant at UCF. JSU, located in Jacksonville, Ala., is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference.

Kellerman graduated with a master's degree in athletic administration from Marshall in 2006.
