Marshall head coach Ron Jirsa
"This was an important game for us. February is a big month for us. We have to play well, and we are in the right direction. We are at a point now where we can take advantage since we have a base and can move forward. We are in the middle of the pack in the league and now we head out on the road and we need those too. We are not out of it and have got to have a big month."
On what he said to the team after UAB's game-opening 8-0 run
"At that point we had to be strong with the ball. We've got to execute plays. I didn't think we ran our offense well with much energy tonight. We needed to settle down since they were just taking the ball away from us."
"I read about the last game in the newspaper, and I agree that it was not a pretty game. But you also have to understand that we just came back from not having our point guard. We are the kind of team that needs to have several players play well, not just the star. We must have five players play well, not just two or three. Everyone did a little something to contribute tonight."
"I thought we played great tonight. We were better on defense, boxed out and played aggressive. Everyone played well tonight and we played well together as a team."
On the turnaround after UAB's game-opening 8-0 run
"Coach always tells us about having poise. We didn't expect to come out 8-0 down, but we didn't panic and make ourselves 12-0 or 14-0 down. We stayed poised, ran through our plays and turned things around."
"He carried us in the first half. Everyone was trying to help out on the defensive end, but Trap carried us on the offensive end and helped us come back around."
"I think we can win every game at the end. Tonight we held onto the ball and we were strong with the ball, and things fell our way."
UAB head coach Mike Davis
"I thought Marshall played well. They were tougher and came up with the key loose balls when they needed them. We got out to a good start, but it was another one of those situations where we can't get out of the 50s.
"We played unselfish basketball early and got some offensive rebounds, but once we got up we took some questionable shots. We are a good rebounding team and felt we could get some offensive rebounds but we didn't execute. Everyone started taking shots on their own.
"Our biggest problem is we are not scoring. We held them to 60 points but we couldn't win. It starts with free throws. It may not have changed the outcome, but it makes it a totally different ballgame."
