HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University head women's basketball coach Royce Chadwick announced today that the Thundering Herd has accepted an invitation to participate in the 2007 Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).

Marshall's appearance in the 2007 Preseason WNIT will be the Herd's first ever berth in either a preseason or postseason WNIT. The 16-team tournament, which guarantees at least three games per school, will be played entirely on campuses around the country.

"We are excited to have Marshall play in the Preseason WNIT next season," WNIT executive director Brent Amick said. "The consistently high level of teams they put together year after year factored in to their WNIT invitation, and we think they will do a great job of representing Conference USA."

The complete 2007 Preseason WNIT field and schedule are slated to be released within the next two weeks.

"We are very excited to be selected to represent Conference USA in the Preseason WNIT," Chadwick said. "It's an honor for Marshall to be apart of the most prestigious preseason basketball tournament in the country."

No. 12 Purdue claimed the 2006 Preseason WNIT title over No. 16 Baylor.
