HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -Two Marshall women's tennis players have been selected to participate in the ITA All-American Championship in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Beginning Sept. 29 at the Riviera Tennis Club, Kellie Schmitt (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Karolina Soor (Lindesberg, Sweden) will represent Marshall and Conference USA in the event.
Schmitt, the 2007 C-USA Player of the Year is the only C-USA singles player in the qualifying round. She will be competing for one of the 16 positions in the main draw to advance to the Oct. 1-3 qualifying singles draw. Schmitt was 18-6 for singles play last season.
Marshall's doubles pair of Schmitt and Soor has also been selected to participate in the qualifying round. During the 2007 season, Schmitt and Soor went 5-2 in doubles play. In singles play, Soor posted a record of 20-7, last season.
Also announced on Tuesday, the ITA National preseason ranking for singles and doubles action has been released. Marshall's Schmitt is ranked number 48 in singles, while the doubles pair of Schmitt and Soor is ranked 59.
