Box Score

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Marshall University volleyball senior outside hitter Kelly-Anne Billingy (Trincity, Trinidad) posted a team-high 10 kills, but Western Kentucky University had three players register double-digit kills to lift the Lady Toppers to a 3-0 (23-30, 28-30, 22-30) victory over the Herd in Saturday night's non-conference Western Kentucky Tournament match at the E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green, Ky.

With the loss, Marshall sees its three-match win streak snapped and falls to 4-3 overall. Western Kentucky improves to 6-1 overall.

Leading two-games-to-none, Western Kentucky built a 22-18 lead and from there used a 9-5 run to seal the win in game three, despite a four-kill effort from Billingy and a three-kill effort from sophomore outside hitter Emily Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio) in the game.

In game one, the Lady Toppers led by as many as six on three occasions, but a four-kill effort from senior middle hitter Uche Ndubisi (Indianapolis, Ind.) and two roof blocks from junior middle hitter Jalicia Ross (Bank Village, Trinidad) brought Marshall to within four at 21-25 but the Herd could get no closer as Western Kentucky tallied five of the next six points.

In the second frame, the teams battled to 12 ties and three lead changes before Western Kentucky posted a 28-25 lead. Ross drove home her third kill of the match to pull the Herd to within two at 28-26, and two plays later got to within one at 28-29 following an attacking error by the Lady Toppers, but could not pull ahead.

Sullivan finished with 29 total kills in the tournament, while Ndubisi totaled 21 kills and 10 total blocks in the tournament and both were named to the 2007 Western Kentucky All-Tournament team.

The Herd returns to non-conference action Tuesday, Sept. 4 when it hosts Xavier University. Match time is 7 p.m. at the Cam Henderson Center and admission is free.
