HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall women's tennis team will travel to Charlottesville, Va. to compete in the inaugural fall University of Virginia (UVa) Invitational beginning on Friday and concluding on Sunday.

Seven teams and six nationally-ranked single players will participate in the inaugural year of the UVa Invitational. The seven teams include: Marshall, Old Dominion, South Carolina, UNC-Greensboro, William and Mary, VCU, and Virginia.

The Herd opened its season last weekend in the William and Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va., in impressive fashion. Marshall's Kellie Schmitt (Pittsburgh, Pa.) brought home second place after a loss to the No. 2 seed of Arkansas in the Flight A Singles finals competition.

Also, the Herd's Karolina Soor (Lindesberg, Sweden) finished with a hard fought fourth place finish after Princeton's King and Soor battled in two matches and three tie breakers.

Marshall's Jessica Keener (Reston, Va.) and teammate Yulia Kashelkina (Moscow, Russia) faced each other in the Flight E Singles consolation finals. Keener won the match to bring home third with Kashelkina taking fourth.

In doubles action, Lock/Raich defeated Cincinnati's duo Rowen/Reddin to earn third place in the Flight B consolation finals.

Friday and Saturday action is set to begin with doubles at 10 a.m., and Sunday action to begin at 9 a.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center.
