HUNTINGTON - Strong performances by Akron in the 100-yard butterfly and 50-yard freestyle helped the Zips to push past the Marshall swimming and diving team on senior day at the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium, 174-126.

"They really just pulled away from us in the breaststroke," Marshall head coach Leonard Kraus. "Akron swam really hard today and we came out flat. Credit them that they were able to do what they needed to do to win."

Marshall took and early lead with wins in the 1000 and 200 freestyle events. Sophomore Jenny Johnnson took first-place in the 1000 with a time of 10:38.35 and freshman Jenae Moreno won the 200 in 1:58.47.

Senor Michaela Sceli once again swept the 100 and 200 breaststroke events with times of 1:05.22 and 2:21.88.

Siobhan Schuurman led Marshall's diving group with second and third-place finishes in the one and three-meter events respectively.

Nine Marshall seniors were honored at the final home event of their collegiate careers. Former diver Casey Mulholland was honored by M Club during the meet as a distinguished athletic alumni.

The Herd will return to action on Jan. 22 on the road against the Ohio Bobcats.
