GREENVILLE, N.C. - For the second time this season the Marshall women's basketball team will square off with East Carolina, taking on the Pirates on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Minges Coliseum.

In their first meeting of the season on January 5th, the Thundering Herd (11-8, 3-2 C-USA) took down ECU (7-11, 1-4 C-USA) in dominating fashion, 81-55, at the Cam Henderson Center.

Both teams have had their share of struggles since their last meeting. Marshall has gone 2-3 since then while East Carolina three of its last four games. The Herd is coming off of a tough loss to No. 12 West Virginia in Wednesday's Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic. Marshall held six-point lead three minutes into the second half, however, a 22-11 second-half run gave WVU an edge that it would not relinquish.

Free throw shooting played a large role for the Herd as it went 14-of-26 from the line, the sixth time in seven games the team has shot below 60% from the line. In the second half against the Mountaineers, the Herd was 8-of-18 from the stripe.

Kizzy Hart rebounded from her first single-digit scoring game in two months with an 18-points effort against the Mountaineers. For her efforts, she was named Capital Classic MVP for the Herd. Meagan Samis, who started her first game since Jackson State on November 30th, responded with a season-high 12 rebounds and three steals.

Hart, along with Tynikki Crook, led Marshall in the first meeting with East Carolina, scoring 15 points apiece. Crook fell just two boards shy of a double-double in the game, grabbing eight rebounds.

East Carolina grabbed its first C-USA win of the year last week, topping Tulsa, 62-52, on Sunday. Despite their 1-4 conference record, the Pirates have been competitive as two of those losses came in overtime.

Jasmine Young leads the Pirates and the conference with an average of 6.1 assists per game. That average is 11th in the country. As a team, ECU averages 16.22 assists, 2nd in C-USA and 27th in the nation.

Sunday's game will be the first of three-straight conference road games for the Herd, who will take on UCF and Southern Miss next weekend. The next home game for the Herd will be on February 7th when it will face UTEP.

All games can be heard live on Marshall's student station, WMUL 88.1-FM, which will also utilize a web broadcast at www.marshall.edu/wmul.
