Women's Tennis Successful in Day One at Hokie Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Marshall University women's tennis team completed first day of play at the 15th annual Hokie Invitational at the Burrows/Burleson Tennis Center at the Virginia Tech campus. The Thundering Herd will begin competition Saturday morning and conclude play Sunday.
Thirteen teams are competing this weekend including Albany, Appalachian State, Davidson, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Liberty, Marshall, Murray State, Radford, Chattanooga, Virginia, Wofford, and Virginia Tech.
The Herd's sophomore Isabell Raich (Klaus, Austria) fell to the University of Virginia's Lindsey Hardenberg, 6-2, 6-0, in flight A singles competition. Raich will face Radford University's Mia Drobnjak in the consolation first round, Saturday morning.
Sophomore Catherine Kellner (Smithtown, N.Y.) won by default over East Carolina University's Andrea LePottier in the singles flight B draw. Appalachian State's Blakeley Bean and Kellner will meet Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinal round.
Freshman Kristina Koprcina (Split, Croatia) defeated Davidson College's Samantha Galainea, 7-5, 6-1, in the singles flight C first round. Koprcina will challenge East Tennessee State's Karina Kedzo Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinal round.
The tandem of Kellner and Raich defeated Albany's pair of Holly Smith and Charlotte Tatler, 8-1, in the first round. Then the duo of Kellner and Korpcina fell to Virginia Tech's Jessica Brouwer and Holly Johnson, 8-2, in the doubles flight A quarterfinals. Kellner and Raich will meet Virginia's tandem of Hardenbergh and Neela Vaez in the consolation first round, Saturday morning.
