Women's Tennis Conclude Day Two at Hokie Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Marshall University women's tennis team completed second day of play at the 15th annual Hokie Invitational at the Burrows/Burleson Tennis Center at the Virginia Tech campus. The Thundering Herd concludes play Sunday with doubles and singles final round competition.
Thirteen teams are competing this weekend including Albany, Appalachian State, Davidson, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Liberty, Marshall, Murray State, Radford, Chattanooga, Virginia, Wofford, and Virginia Tech.
The Herd's sophomore Isabell Raich (Klaus, Austria) defeated Radford University's Mia Drobnjak, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (3), in flight A singles consolation first round. Then Raich took a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0(9) advantage over East Carolina University's Varina Soler in the semifinal round. The sophomore will compete against ECU's Jessica Cook, Sunday morning, for flight A ninth place.
Sophomore Catherine Kellner (Smithtown, N.Y.) took a straight-set victory over Appalachian State's Blakeley Bean, 6-3, 6-3, in flight B singles quarterfinal round. Virginia Tech's 110th-ranked Yasmin Hamza defeated Kellner, 6-2, 6-1, in the semifinal round. The sophomore transfer will face Chattanooga's Shaina Singh for third place, Sunday morning.
Freshman Kristina Koprcina (Split, Croatia) fell 6-3, 6-1 to East Tennessee State's Karina Kedzo in the flight C singles quarterfinal round. The freshman took a straight-set victory over Chattanooga's Beata Knizat, 6-3, 6-2 in fifth place first round. ECU's Natalie Collins and Koprcina will meet Sunday afternoon for flight C fifth place.
Virginia's tandem of Lindsey Hardenbergh and Neela Vaez defeated the pair of Kellner and Koprcina, 8-4, in the flight A doubles consolation first round. The Herd duo will meet Radford's Petra Dajevic and Drobnjak, Sunday morning for doubles flight A seventh place.
