ORLANDO, Fla. - The Marshall University men's basketball team travels to Orlando, Fla. to take on the UCF Knights in a Conference USA showdown at the New UCF Arena. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 25.
The game will be video-streamed live on Herd All-Access, via HerdZone.com. The contest can also be heard on the Thundering Herd/ISP Sports Network with Steve Cotton (PxP) and Woody Woodrum (color).
The Thundering Herd enters Sunday's contest with a record of 9-9 overall and is 2-2 in league action, while UCF stands at 12-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
The all-time series between the teams is tied 3-3, with Marshall earning a 71-66 victory in the last meeting between the squads on Feb. 23, 2008. The teams split the season series last season, with the home team picking up each victory.
In the Herd's last outing, Markel Humphrey connected on a shot from 75-feet away with less than a second to play to lift Marshall to a dramatic 53-50 win over SMU. Humphrey rebounded the ball off of a missed shot from SMU's Derek Williams, from under Marshall's own basket, with less than four seconds to play and the score tied 50-50. The senior then took several dribbles and fired the ball up from the right side of the three-point arc and watched as the high-arcing shot (estimated at 75 feet) banked off of the glass and in to the basket on the opposite side of the court to cap the late-game heroics. Humphrey finished the game with nine points and four rebounds.
UCF is led by C-USA Player-of-the-Year candidate Jermaine Taylor. The senior guard averages 23.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. The Knights boast a 9-1 home mark this season and have won two straight contests and seven of their last nine games including a 73-61 win over Southern Miss in its last outing on Jan. 21.
Marshall will continue its C-USA two-game road swing with a 9:00 p.m. ET contest at Southern Miss, Tuesday, Jan. 27 at the Reed Green Coliseum.
