Swimming Records First Win in Greenville

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Rachel Hannum had third and fourth-place finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving, respectively, as the Marshall University swimming and diving team outlasted Campbell 196-97 but fell to Towson 235-65 and host East Carolina 193-100 at the Minges Aquatic Center Saturday afternoon.
Marshall moved to 1-4 on the year and 0-1 in Conference USA play after concluding Saturday's meet 1-2.
In the 1-meter, Hannum finished third with a score of 231.35, with Maribeth Smith following in fourth (215.85) and Lauren Rone in fifth (211.85). In the 3-meter, Haley Holmquist had a team-best third-place finish with a score of 241.60. Hannum finished fourth (232.15), Rone in sixth (219.20) and Smith in ninth (193.05).
For the swimmers, freshman Arlie Rykosky made a strong showing in the 100-yard butterfly with a third-place finish in a time of 58.10. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, a team of Rykosky, Liz Greenway, Lauren Fairbanks and Jenny Johnsson finished in fifth with a time of 3:41.35.
"We swam better and are making strides," head coach Leonard Kraus said. "Arlie, Jenny and Kristin all had strong outings tonight."
MU swimming and diving will continue its road swing on Nov. 7 in Youngstown, Ohio, with a 2 p.m. matchup against Youngstown State.
