Blacksburg, Va. - The Marshall University women's tennis team captured every championship this weekend in singles and doubles competition at the Hokie Fall Invitational on the campus of Virginia Tech.

On the weekend, Herd players compiled a win-loss record of 48-6.

Junior Michaela Kissell won the Flight A bracket, senior Deanna Bailey captured the Flight B bracket, freshman Dominika Zaprazna took the Flight C championship, and senior Thaddea Lock earned the Flight D title.

In doubles action, the duo of Kissell and Zaprzna were the Flight A champions, while Bailey and freshman Kara Kucin took the Flight B crown.

"To win every flight of the tournament is a great accomplishment," head coach John Mercer said. "Everyone competed extremely hard on the final day, which is always the toughest, so that was great to see."

Kissell defeated teammate Isabell Raich in the Flight A title match in straight sets (6-3, 6-3). The 36th ranked player in the country improved her fall record to 9-2 overall.

In another all-Herd final, Bailey captured the Flight B championship by out-dueling Kristina Koprcina (6-2, 6-2).

Zaprzana was victorious (6-3, 6-1) over Davidson's Ali Gores to win the Flight C bracket, and Lock also won in straight sets as she defeated Victoria Cran of Texas Tech (7-5, 6-1) for the Flight D crown.

Kissell and Zaprazna made quick work of Virginia Tech's team of Blakely and Johnson in the championship match of the Flight A doubles bracket. The pairing won 8-1. Bailey and Kucin claimed the Flight B title by default as Betts and Rauscher of VT had to retire mid-match.

"The five players that returned this year have taken their games to a different level," said Mercer. "And when you add the three recruits we did, our team is just playing great and gaining confidence."
