Los Angeles, Calif. - Junior Michaela Kissell was topped by the second-ranked player in the country, Chelsey Gullickson of Georgia, on the second day of competition at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships Friday afternoon.
Kissell took the first set, but dropped the final two 3-6, 6-0, 6-3.
"Michaela lost to a great player today," head Coach John Mercer said. "She tried to mount a comeback in the third; but regardless, she played some great tennis and this can only help her down the road."
Despite losing, Kissell was the first MU player to make it to the round of 16 in the main draw of this tournament.
Kissell and the Herd tennis team will take next weekend off in preparation for the ITA Atlantic Regional Tournament on Oct. 22-26, hosted by Virginia Tech.
