RADFORD, Va.- Marshall University divers Rachel Hannum and Haley Holmquist set career-best records in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, respectively, as the Herd outlasted Radford, 146-88, and Campbell, 127-109, Saturday afternoon in the Dedmon Center Natatorium.
Hannum broke her previous 1-meter personal-best of 246.23 (11/8/08) when she laid out a score of 251.77 to take the first-place finish. The dive marked the first time this season Hannum has won the event.
Holmquist notched a score of 256.57 in the 3-meter to earn the win, smashing her former-best dive of 235.95 (1/31/09). Saturday's dive bumps Holmquist up one slot; she is now the third-best 3-meter performer in program history.
Maribeth Smith also posted a career-best score in the 3-meter (255.30) with a second-place finish. Smith is now fourth all-time in the event. Hannum and Lauren Rone improved their personal-bests in the event with scores of 244.50 and 225.60, respectively.
Also taking home first-place finishes were Jenny Johnsson (200-yard freestyle, 1:56.25), Arlie Rykosky (100-yard butterfly, 59.83) and Vera Niemeyer, who was tops in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:55.90) and 100-yard backstroke (1:02.72).
Also taking home a first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay was the team of Niemeyer, Kristin Wheatley, Rykosky and anchor Jenae Moreno, with a time of 4:08.31.
MU (4-4) extends its streak to three wins, all coming on the road. The Herd will finish the fall portion of its schedule next week, Nov. 19-21, when it competes at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Invite in Bowling Green, Ky.
