PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Marshall University women's basketball team will take to the court this weekend, traveling to the Pittsburgh Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The Herd will open the weekend with a tilt against Miami (Ohio) at 3 p.m. on Friday before facing off against either Pitt or Appalachian State on Saturday.

Marshall begins the weekend with a record of 1-3 following a 63-48 loss at Ohio University on Tuesday evening. Tynikki Crook scored a season-high 18 points while Alyssa Hammond chipped in ten, but it was not enough as the Bobcats hit 11-of-18 three-pointers on their way to the win.

One stat for Marshall stands out and seems to have an impact on its success. Last season, when three or more Herd players scored in double figures, Marshall was 16-3. When two or fewer reached the ten-point mark, MU was 1-12. The importance of that stat has been evident this season. Through four games, Marshall has had only two scorers reach double digits in each game, posting a 1-3 mark.

Miami enters Fridays game with a 1-2 mark. The RedHawks opened the season with a 75-54 win over Bucknell before falling to Arizona, 91-67. The first two games took place in the Iona Tip-Off Tournament. Last Saturday, Miami fell, 78-62, to Wake Forest. They are led by freshman guard Courtney Osborn, who has averaged 17.3 points per game. She also leads the team with 11 assists.

Friday's game against Miami will mark the third consecutive contest against a MAC opponent for Marshall. The Herd took down Kent State, 57-50, before falling to Ohio U., 63-48, Tuesday. Since leaving the conference for C-USA in 2005, the Herd has posted a 2-3 mark against its former foes, with the wins coming in 2007 at Ohio and 2009 against Kent State. All three losses have come at the hands of Ohio University.

On Saturday, Marshall will take on either Pitt or Appalachian State. Pitt enters the weekend ranked 20th in the nation in the latest USA TODAY ESPN Top 25 Poll while Appalachian State dealt Marshall a 63-58 loss in the season opener on November 13.
