Herd Swimming and Diving in Sixth at C-USA Championships

HOUSTON -- After a sluggish effort on day two, the Marshall swimming and diving team had several highlight performances in the pool on day three of the Conference USA Championships.
Marshall currently sits in sixth-place with a three-day score of 142.
"We swam a lot better today and really stated to pick it up a little bit," Marshall head coach Leonard Kraus said. "I was really proud of the girls again. We had a lot of lifetime bests.
"Brian Burns was great in the breaststroke and Jenny Johnsson was fantastic in the IM."
Johnsson, who recently broke her own school-record in the 200-yard backstroke, set the school record in the 400-yard IM with a 4:26.61 and a 10th-place overall finish.
Burns had Marshall's top finish of the day with an eighth-place performance in the 100-yard breaststroke. The junior clocked in with a lifetime-best 1:05.00 in the finals.
Kristen Wheatley was just behind Burns with an 11th-place finish and a lifetime-best 1:05.62 in the prelims. Whealtey also placed 15th in the 400 IM where she set lifetime bests in the prelims and finals. The junior recorded a 4:32.25 in the prelims and a 4:32.08 in the finals of that event.
In the butterfly, Marshall got a season-best performance from Kayla Truswell who turned in a 56.61 in the 100 to finish 11th overall. Jenae Moreno was 16th with a time of 57.34 and senior Samantha Noland also had an outstanding performance with 1:00.22 in the morning session.
Megan Demter reached the finals of the 200-yard freestyle and finished in 15th-place on the strength of a 1:53.89.
On the boards, Siobhan Schuurman improved on her 12th-place finish in the three-meter, taking ninth-place in the one-meter event. Haley Holmquist finished 10th with a 222.45.
