HUNTINGTON - Marshall's swimming and diving team was honored last week for its performance in the classroom as Conference USA announced that Kayla Truswell and Jenny Johnsson were selected to the league's All-Academic squad and Marshall's team was honored by the College Swimming Coaches of America for having one of the highest grade-point averages of any Division I program.
Senior Kayla Truswell of Marshall made a repeat appearance to the All-Academic Team. Truswell maintains a 3.77 GPA in psychology and led Marshall in both butterfly events. The London, Ontario, Canada native is a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient and also received the Commissioner's Academic Medal a year ago for her efforts in the classroom.
Marshall's Jenny Johnsson is the only junior on the All-Academic team. Johnsson was crowned the 2008 C-USA Newcomer of the Year and is currently studying dietetics in which she carries a 3.77 GPA. Johnsson broke her own school record in the 200-backstroke twice this season and also set a new personal-best in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
The Thundering Herd posted a team GPA of 3.37 for the fall of 2008. This ranked Marshall on the CSCAA All-American list.
