HUNTINGTON - Marshall men's basketball player Adam Williams was one of 12 athletes announced as a recipient of the Winter Conference USA Spirit of Service Award by the league office on Wednesday.

Williams, a senior, transferred to Marshall after his freshman year at the University of Kentucky. The 6-4 guard stepped foot in Huntington and immediately went to work in the community and on campus.

Williams spent time with children at local hospitals and at the Boys and Girls Club. He also participated in the local Ronald McDonald house and the Salvation Army holiday event last season where he went to a local Wal-Mart and shopped for Christmas gifts for low income families and children.

The St. Albans, W.Va., native will graduate this May with a degree from Marshall where he has decided to forego his final season of eligibility to start on his coaching career. Williams will serve as a graduate assistant on the men's basketball team next season.
