Final 2009 ITA National And Regional Rankings Released

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University was one of six Conference USA schools recognized in the final 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings for 2009.
Kellie Schmitt, a three-time C-USA Player of the Year, was the top-ranked singles player in the East Region. She was also ranked 63rd overall.
Schmitt, along with doubles partner Karolina Soor, finished as the No. 5 ranked tandem in the East.
As a team, the Thundering Herd finished the 2009 campaign ranked 11th in the East Region and No. 67 overall.
Five other schools in the league also received national or regional accolades. Leading the way was SMU, who was named the No. 2 team in the Southwest and 23rd overall. In the Central Region, Tulsa was named the third best team and 36th overall.
On the individual side, the duo of Marta Lesniak and Aleksandra Malyarchikova of SMU were ranked as the third best tandem in the Southwest and 22nd in the nation.
