CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Catherine Kellner defeated teammate Deanna Bailey in the finals of the Flight B bracket to capture the title on the final day of the University of Virginia Fall Tennis Classic on Sunday afternoon.
"I am really proud of Catherine," head coach John Mercer said. "She has picked up her level of play and it is a great thing to see."
In the Flight A championship match, Michaela Kissell lost to UVA's Lindsey Hardenbergh in a match that went three sets and lasted three hours and fifteen minutes.
"Michaela had a couple of match points in the second set but could not finish it out," Mercer said. "I am proud of her however, she had a great effort."
Kissell and Hardenbergh have now split a pair of matches this season. Kissell won last week at the William & Mary Tournament.
"I am proud of everyone for their efforts this weekend. We are competing and getting better every time we take the court."
The Herd has a week off and then takes the court again on Oct. 2, at the Virginia Tech Tournament.
