TULSA, Okla. - Following its final non-conference game of the regular season, the Marshall University women's basketball team return to Conference USA action, traveling to Tulsa for a matchup against the Golden Hurricane on Saturday afternoon.
Tip is set for 6 p.m. ET at the Reynolds Center. WMUL 88.1 will carry the game live and online at www.marshall.edu/wmul.
The Thundering Herd dropped its record to 11-7 following a 74-42 loss to West Virginia in Wednesday's Capital Classic. The Mountaineers held the Herd to just 14 first-half points in the loss while outrebounding MU, 44-27.
For the second time in three games, freshman Veronica Ruiz was the leading scorer for Marshall, recording 13. She also led the team with nine rebounds and two blocked shots. Sophomore Raechele Gray hit all three three-point attempts that she took en route to an 11-point performance against WVU, tying the top scoring game of her career at MU. She also tallied 11 last week at Rice.
Marshall will be without the services of junior Tynikki Crook for approximately three weeks following surgery to her hand. With the loss, the Herd tweaked its lineup against WVU as Ruiz and Adrian Randall started the first games of their career.
Tulsa enters Saturday's action with a 6-9 mark. The Golden Hurricane is winless in four league games thus far. Tulsa entered C-USA play on a three-game win streak, but has lost its first four conference games by an average of 6.0 PPG.
Senior Larrissa Williams is one of the top players in Conference USA, ranking in the top five in scoring, rebounding and blocks, the only player in the league with those numbers. She averages 15.7 PPG and 8.7 RPG. She has blocked 36 shots this season, the most in C-USA.
Marshall will return home for a pair of games next weekend, playing host to Memphis on Thursday evening before taking on UAB on Saturday. Both games are set for a 7 p.m. tip at the Cam Henderson Center.
