HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Following a four-game trip away from home, the Marshall University women's basketball team returns to the Cam Henderson Center for a pair of games this weekend, facing Memphis on Thursday before playing host to UAB on Saturday evening.

Both games are set to tip at 7 p.m.

Marshall comes into the weekend with a 12-7 mark and a 4-2 record in league play. The Thundering Herd finished its trip with a 2-2 mark, topping Houston and Tulsa while falling at Rice and West Virginia.

Last time out, a shorthanded Herd grabbed a 57-49 victory at Tulsa. Marshall was without three of its top post players in Tynikki Crook, Veronica Ruiz and Alyssa Hammond, but used a stingy defense to take the win.

The defense held Tulsa to just 18-of-70 (.257) shooting. Kendra King tied a career-high with 14 points in the game while Chantelle Handy notched her first double-double of the season, scoring 11 points while leading the Herd with ten rebounds.

Marshall is set to face two of the three teams in a tie for first place in the conference, beginning with Memphis on Thursday. Memphis enters the game with an 11-6 mark, its best start to a season since the 2003-04 campaign when it started the season 12-5. The Tigers have a 4-1 mark in league play and have won three-straight in the league, topping Rice, 59-58, in an overtime match last time out. They are led by Brittany Carter, who is the only scorer averaging double digits, scoring 18.7 points per game.

UAB is 10-7 overall and 4-1 in C-USA. The Blazers open the weekend on Thursday evening at East Carolina. The Blazers began conference play at 4-0 before dropping a 63-62 decision to Houston last time out.

Jala Harris averages 15.5 points per game to lead the way for UAB Tamika Dukes has chipped in an average of 12.6 PPG. Harris led all players with 26 points in the game against the Cougars.

Following this weekend, the Herd will be back on the road, taking on UCF and Southern Miss to begin the month of February. Marshall took the first set of games against the Knights and Golden Eagles earlier this month at the Cam Henderson Center.
