NORFOLK, Va. - Michaela Kissell of the Marshall University tennis team proved why she is the top seed as she breezed through the first round of singles at the ITA Atlantic Regional hosted by Old Dominion University.
Kissell won in dominant fashion as she crushed Emily Lauten of Virginia Tech, 6-2, 6-0. She now faces Alex Bara of Virginia Commonwealth in the round of 32.
Kissell was the lone bright spot for the Herd as all other singles competitors fell in the first round.
In doubles, The Herd squashed the spiders as Kissell and Dominika Zaprazna rolled the duo if Sims/Tidwell of Richmond, 8-1, while Catherine Kellner and Maria Voscekova also advanced to the round of 16 with a 9-7 thriller against Richmond's Grant/Matuszczyk.
Action at Old Dominion continues tomorrow morning with quarterfinal action in both singles and doubles.
