Kissell Wins First Round Singles Match at All-American Championships

PACIFIC PALASADIES, Calif. - Michaela Kissell of the Marshall University women's tennis team won her first round match of the singles main draw at the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships Thursday afternoon.
The senior, Hostetter, Pa., native topped Connie Hsu of Penn in the first round of the 32 player main draw, 7-6 (4), 1-6, 6-2.
Kissell advances to take on the second-ranked player in the nation, Hilary Barte of Stanford. The two met last year in the first round of the NCAA Tournament where Barte knocked Kissell out of the tournament.
In doubles, Kissell and Dominika Zaprazna fell to a duo from Sacramento State, 8-5, and are now eliminated from the tournament.
Action at the Riviera Tennis Club continues Friday morning at 9 a.m. EST.
