HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University swimming and diving team (2-3) was able to capture a 171-129 victory against Youngstown State by taking wins in nine of the 16 events on Saturday afternoon at Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.
An impressive showing in the 1650 Freestyle event from newcomers Heather Moore and Tiffany Aeling gave the Thundering Herd first and second-place finishes, respectively. The duo notched the top two spots after Moore tallied a time of 17:47.08 (7th all-time at Marshall), followed closely by Aeling in 17:55.18 (10th all-time at Marshall).
"We took a big step towards establishing our team identity moving forward," said head coach Russell Hunt. "I thought our distance swimmers did an exceptional job establishing themselves in the mile and we really showed our depth in the Butterfly events."
In the 200 Butterfly, Arlie Rykosky put up a first-place finish with a time of 2:09.40. The Herd also took the top four places in the 100 Butterfly with Rykosky again tops in the event with a time of 59.34.
