HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- Rachel Hannum, Haley Holmquist and Lauren Rone will represent the Marshall University diving team at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships from March 12 through 14. The Thundering Herd will compete at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center on the campus of Rutgers University.

For the first time in program history three divers will compete in the Zones - the last MU diver eligible for the post-season was Siobhan Schuurman, who qualified in 2009.

Holmquist, a junior, qualified in the 3-meter at James Madison on Feb. 6, with a score of 288.07. She will also choose to compete in the 1-meter as her bonus event.

"Haley has been very consistent in competition all season," said diving coach Jim Zagaria. "She has a lot of big meet experience through USA Diving and has a solid list on both boards which gives her a great chance to score well at Zones. I see closing out the season at Zones as a great accomplishment for Haley and I'm very proud of all her hard work in and out of the pool."

Hannum, a senior, earned a spot in the 3-meter with a tally of 281.40 on Jan. 29, at Vanderbilt; and will also see action in the 1-meter after qualifying at JMU on Feb. 6, with a score of 269.17.

"Having Rachel qualify for Zones in her last season with Marshall is a great way to end her diving career on a high note," Zagaria said. "The fact that she qualified in both the one and three meter really shows how well rounded she is as a diver. Rachel is a great asset to Marshall swimming and diving and her cheerful and positive attitude will be greatly missed."

Rone, a freshman, qualified in the 1-meter after scoring 270.30 points at the Marshall Invite. Rone will also dive in the 3-meter as her bonus event.

"I am thrilled and proud of Lauren and all her hard work," said Zagaria. "In the middle of the season she increased her degree of difficulty in adding an outstanding front two-and-a-half somersaults pike and a reverse one-and-a-half pike. Lauren is a very driven diver and going to Zones as a freshman is a great accomplishment and an opportunity to gain some big meet experience."
