HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Marshall University swimming and diving team wrapped up the 2010 campaign this past weekend by announcing its team awards at the team's annual awards banquet. Rachel Hannum, Jenny Johnnson, Arlie Rykosky, and Susan Velte headlined the ceremony.

Hannum was named the Marshall Diver of the Year, an award recognizing a diver's work ethic and consistent contributions on the diving boards. The Point Pleasant, W.Va., native garnered two NCAA zone qualifying scores this season, as well as finishing as Marshall's third all-time highest scorer on the 3-meter springboard, fourth all-time highest scorer on the 1-meter springboard and third all-time highest scorer in the platform.

Johnnson was honored as the Marshall Leadership Award recipient, an award recognizing a swimmer's contributions to the team's final point totals and ability to lead by example. The senior posted three top-12 finishes at the Conference USA Championships meet - eighth place in the 400 individual medley, 10th place in the 500 freestyle and 12th place in the 200 backstroke. Johnnson is the school record holder in both the 400 individual medley and the 200 backstroke and this season was named to her second straight C-USA All-Academic team.

Rykosky was named the 2010 Marshall Freshman of the Year. The Metairie, La., native garnered two top-10 spots at the conference championship, finishing ninth in both the 100 and 200 butterfly, as well as posting the third fastest relay splits at the championship meet in both the 200 and 400 medley relays. The freshman owns the third and fourth fastest times in Marshall history in the 100 and 200 butterfly, respectively.

Velte is the recipient of the Marshall Spirit Award, which honors a swimmer's dedication and willingness to support her teammates through the course of the season. The junior returned from injury in the 2009-10 season and helped lead the Herd at the Marshall Invite by finishing third in the 100 backstroke, fifth in the 100 butterfly and eighth in the 100 freestyle.
