Game Notes
HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- Marshall women's basketball sets its eyes on UAB as it travels to Birmingham to face the Blazers on Sunday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Memphis completed the season sweep on the Thundering Herd (5-14, 1-5 C-USA) Thursday night at the Cam Henderson Center with a 69-44 win. Tynikki Crook finished with a team-high 19 points, while junior guard Alaya Mitchell drained 11 in the losing effort but Jasmine Lee led the Tigers with 19 points en route to the victory.
Marshall welcomes back Lateidra Elliott who will make her return to the Thundering Herd lineup. Elliott who went down Dec. 18th during the Cleveland State contest has missed 10 games including all six Conference USA matchups. The junior guard averaged 10.2 points per game and 3.6 assists per game while starting in all nine appearances this season.
"It's nice to have some people back, they aren't 100 percent but it will be nice to be able to look down the bench and so okay so and so is tired now we can sub for them," head coach Royce Chadwick said.
UAB (9-11, 1-6 C-USA) has dropped six of its last seven games including its latest contest a 71-64 loss to East Carolina on Thursday. Four players hit double-digits in the losing effort. Amanda Peterson scored a team-high 18 points, while Karisma Chapman grabbed the games only double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Amber Jones, the Blazers leader in points per game this season (10.8), chipped in 13 points, four rebounds and four assists.
"UAB has the total package. They can shoot the three, they can take you to the paint, they are very prolific off the dribble, very athletic and very well coached," Chadwick continued. "We are going to have to play great defense and offensively we have to execute."
MU holds a 7-5 series advantage versus UAB winning in three of its last four tries against the Blazers.
