CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- The ladies of the Thundering Herd tennis team concluded day one of the Kitty Harrison Invitational with doubles' success, as they downed Texas A&M 2-0 and drew with the University of Virginia 1-1.

Marshall's top duo of Dominika Zaprazna and Maria Voscekova went undefeated in doubles action on the day, beating the Aggies' Wen and Cuthbertson 8-5 to hand Marshall an early win in the fixture. The number two doubles team of Kara Kucin and Karli Timko then wrapped-up the win for the Herd with a 9-7 victory over Vorster and Olivier.

In the team's second doubles match of the day, the Herd faced a UVA squad that included the No. 9 ranked doubles pair of Hardenbergh and Vierra. Zaprazna and Voscekova were once again up to the challenge, though, as the duo upset the Cavalier team with an impressive 8-3 win. Kucin and Timko were unable to replicate their prior successes, though, and fell by the same 8-3 scoreline to split the series 1-1.

The Herd then squared-off with Princeton in its only singles event of the day, but fell 4-1 as Kara Kucin secured the team's only win in the competition.

"I am very proud of Dominika and Maria for pulling off the win over a top-10 team," said Head Coach John Mercer. "It was an impressive performance against a very good opponent, and we will be hoping for more of the same tomorrow."

Marshall will resume play on Saturday when it takes on Duke in doubles competition at 10:00 a.m. The Herd will then play singles matches against Furman and UNC at 1:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.
