Poindexter Named Marshall Athlete of the Week

HUNTINGTON, W.VA. - Alyse Poindexter has been named this week's Athlete of the Week after leading the Marshall women's basketball team to the Aces Winter Classic championship title this past weekend in Evansville, Ind.
The junior forward averaged 14.0 points, while adding 8.5 rebounds per game and 1.5 blocks per game. Poindexter helped the Herd win its fourth game in a row and go 2-0 for the weekend with wins against Chicago State and Evansville. Her performance for the weekend earned her MVP of the Aces Winter Classic Tournament.
Poindexter scored a season-high 18 points in only 21 minutes of play on Friday against Chicago State, while going 8-for-11 from the free throw line. She recorded a 71.4 percent average from the field against the Cougars, going 5-for-7.
Against Evansville in the championship game, Poindexter finished with her first double-double, recording 10 points and a season-high 10 rebounds. She posted two blocks in the game and was perfect from the free throw line, going 4-for-4. She finished the weekend with a 80 percent (12-for 15) free throw percentage.
