GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Marshall University men's basketball team will look to halt a two-game skid when it travels to East Carolina to face the Pirates on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Minges Coliseum.
Last time out, UAB opened up a 16-point first half lead and never looked back, going up by as many as 20 points in the latter period before taking a 64-48 win. Cameron Moore recorded 18 points and 14 rebounds while Marshall was led by Damier Pitts, who notched 19 points to lead all scorers.
Pitts led all scorers in the home game against UAB with 19 points. He converted on a career-high eight shots while hitting both free throw attempts and dishing out three assists.
East Carolina enters Saturday's contest after a seven-day layoff. The Pirates topped UCF at home last Saturday by a 68-61 margin after falling at SMU by a score of 46-41 three days earlier. ECU is 13-10 on the season and 5-4 in conference play. They have posted a 9-3 home mark.
Jontae Sherrod leads the way for ECU with 15.1 points per game while Darrius Morrow averages 12.5 PPG. Morrow scored 33 in the first game in Huntington earlier this season while Sherrod notched 23 points in last week win over the Knights.
In the first meeting this season between East Carolina and Marshall on January 22, the Pirates came away with an 82-81 victory. Marshall looked to be in control up by ten points with 5:30 remaining in the game, but ECU chipped away, winning on a Darrius Morrow layup and free throw with five seconds remaining. Morrow scored 33 points in the game while Tirrell Baines led the Herd with 21 points and eight rebounds.
The Herd and Pirates are set to tip at 5 p.m. with WSAZ carrying the game live. From there, the Herd returns home on Wednesday to face Rice at 7 p.m. inside the Cam Henderson Center.
