Swimming and Diving Concludes at C-USA Championships

HOUSTON, Texas.- Heather Moore and Vera Niemeyer set a pair of school records as the Marshall University swimming and diving team wrapped up the final day of the Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships.
In Saturday's opening race, Heather Moore smashed Marshall's prior record in the 1650 Freestyle by seven seconds, to ring in at fifth place in a time of 16:53.31. Vera Niemeyer joined in the record breaking with a school-best time of 2:03.50 in the 200 Backstroke.
"We swam and dove a fantastic meet this week and the players deserve a great deal of credit for aiming their sights not only on bettering last years' championship experience, but by achieving far beyond simply improving," said head coach Russell Hunt.
Other top finishes from Saturday included an eighth-place showing in the Platform Diving by Haley Holmquist, who finished eighth with a final score of 150.15. Lauren Rone and Kayla Edwards each set career bests with 145.80 and 122.50 points, respectively.
Sarah Kay had a seventh-place finish in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:03.68, good enough for 13th all-time at Marshall.
The Herd rounded out the competition with a season-best time in the 400 Freestyle Relay. With a finish of 3:33.62 was the lineup of Lauren Fairbanks, Niemeyer, Tiffany Aeling and Jenae Moreno.
