No. 41 Marshall Tennis Upset by Winthrop, 5-2

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The No. 41 Marshall University tennis team suffered its first home loss of the season as the Thundering Herd was knocked off by Winthrop University Friday afternoon at the Brain David Fox Tennis Courts.
The Herd falls to 12-4 on the season with the loss while Winthrop now sports an 11-9 overall record.
Winthrop applied the early pressure as the Eagles took the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. The Herd's tandem of Dominika Zaprazna and Kara Kucin we able to win in third doubles as the duo defeated Garcia/Zaytseva, 8-4.
Zaprazna would also win her singles match on court two, defeating Zaytseva for the second time of the day, winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Maria Voscekova would be the only other member of the Herd to notch a singles win as she outlasted Garcia in three sets, 7-6, 4-6, 7-6.
The Herd has to regroup as MU takes the court again on Sunday against the Penn State Nittany Lions. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. Fans can follow live stats of the match by logging on to the front page of herdzone.com.
