Swimming & Diving Holds Annual Banquet

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - After a season highlighted by several top notch individual performances, the Marshall University Swimming and Diving team held its annual team banquet last week to recognize the squad.
"The presentation gave teammates an opportunity to recognize individuals who played special roles through the course of the season," said head coach Russell Hunt. It was nice to thank our graduating seniors before commencement and see the team come together before final exams and summer break."
A list of the 2010-11 Marshall award recipients:
Vera Niemeyer, Most Valuable Swimmer
Recognizing overall positive contributions to team point totals, relays and training sessions.
Haley Holmquist, Most Valuable Diver
Recognizing overall contributions in team point totals in multiple events and training sessions on the diving boards.
Frankie Roman, Spirit Award
Honors a swimmer's dedication and willingness to support teammates through the course of the season.
Heather Moore and Sarah Kay, Co-Freshmen of the Year
Recognizes a freshman's first year impact team point totals with a clear pursuit of future team success.
Tiffany Aeling, Iron-Woman Award
Recognizes a teammates overall attendance and willingness to dedicate themselves to consistent training.
Lauren Fairbanks, Student-Athlete Award
Honors commitment to individual and team success in the classroom and in the pool.
"With these awards, the team echoed the mentality that saw us to our greatest successes throughout the season. The collective pursuit and trust in many was reflected in the team's nominations for awards. There were seven considered for most valuable swimmer, four for most valuable diver and the freshman of the year award was shared for the first time in recent memory," said Hunt.
