CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The Marshall University women's tennis team has travelled to Charlottesville, Virginia, this weekend for the 2011 University of Virginia Fall Invitational. The combined singles and doubles tournament will be the Thundering Herd's first of the fall 2011 season, and will allow the team's top players to match wits and skills with a highly competitive field of opponents.

The invitational is run as a bracket-styled tournament with three flights of competition in the singles category and two in the doubles. Marshall is represented in the singles "A" flight by junior Dominika Zaprazna, who posted a solid 13-8 singles record last season and managed an even more impressive 19-1 record in doubles matches. Zaprazna will square off against UVA's Erin Vierra - who is currently ranked No. 74 in the nation - in round one at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Zaprazna and her doubles partner, Maria Voscekova, are currently ranked a lofty No. 36 in the nation, and will begin doubles play in the "A" flight at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

Voscekova is also one of three Marshall ladies to represent the Herd in the singles "B" flight, as she joins Karli Timko and Kristina Koprcina in that tier. Voscekova will play her singles match at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, while Timko and Koprcina are both set for 9:00 a.m. singles matches. The latter pair will also team up for an "A" flight doubles match at 3:00 p.m. on Friday against UVA's No. 48 ranked duo of Fuccillo and Xi.

The singles "C" flight will feature Marshall's lone freshman, Ellie Ball, and junior returner Kara Kucin. Ball is set for a 10:30 a.m., Friday match, and Kucin will start some fifteen minutes earlier at 10:15 a.m. The teammates will then pair up as Marshall's lone duo in the doubles "B" flight when they take on Virginia Commonwealth University's Placha and Kvitashvili at 3:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

All matches are scheduled for play at the Snyder Tennis Center, beginning with the opening rounds on Friday, and ending with the championship matches on Sunday. Admission to the tournament is free and complete draws and match times can be seen by clicking here.
