WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The ladies of the Thundering Herd tennis team have arrived at the Wake Forest Tennis Center for a weekend of singles and doubles tournament action at the 2011 Wake Forest Invitational.

The team was last in action some two weekends ago when it travelled to the University of Virginia for its opening matches of the fall season at the UVA Fall Invitational. Karli Timko was impressive for the Herd during the three day event, and she will be looking for more of the same as her and the rest of her Marshall teammates square off against some of the best competition in the region.

The Wake Forest Invitational is set in a bracket-style, tournament format with six different flights in the singles category and three flights in the doubles section. Marshall will be represented in the first five of those six singles flights, and will also have a pairing in each of the three doubles flights.

Junior Dominika Zaprazna will once again be the lone representative for the Herd in the A Flight of the tournament, and she will carry a No. 4 seed into the 16 person field. Her first match is set to take place against Richmond's Helen Cunningham on Friday at 9:00 a.m.

In the B Flight, Marshall is represented by the aforementioned Timko, and fellow sophomore teammate Maria Voscekova. Timko will carry a No. 4 seed into the bracket, where she will face Winthrop's Andressa Garcia in her opening match at 10:30 a.m. Voscekova will square-off against No. 2 seed Molly O'Koniewski of UVA at 9:00 a.m.

Kristina Koprcina leads the Herd in the C Flight with a No. 2 seed and an opening round matchup with Radford's Hannah Crawford. Fellow Herdswoman Kara Kucin will play in the D Flight against Davidson's Nisha Crouser, while freshman Ellie Ball serves as Marshall's lone participant in the E Flight as a No. 2 seed. Ball will open with Davidson's Katherine Dicconson at 9:00 a.m., while Kristina and Kara are set for 10:30 matches.

On the doubles side of the tournament, Marshall is represented by the No. 4 seed pairing of Zaprazna and Voscekova in the A Flight. The duo will open with a match against Radford's Dajevic and Drobnjak on Friday. In the B Flight, Kucin and Koprcina enter with the No. 1 overall seed, and will hope to avoid an upset from Wake Forest's Siegler and Zarina in the opening match. The pairing of Timko and Ball will serve as Marshall's third and final team in the C Flight, where they will hope to benefit from a first round bye and defeat either Louisville's Villajuan and Duncan, or Davidson's Dicconson and Wood in the second stage.

Play for both the singles and doubles tournaments will begin on Friday, September 27, and continue until the finals on Sunday, September 29. All matches will be played at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
