DALLAS, Texas -- The Thundering Herd men's soccer team will face its toughest test of the season when it travels to Dallas, Texas, for a 1 p.m. ET showdown with No. 19 ranked SMU on Sunday.
The Mustangs currently sit atop the Conference USA standings with a 5-1-0 league record and are 9-3-3 overall. The team's only conference loss came at UCF earlier in the month, snapping what had been a nine-match unbeaten run for the Texas-based school.
For Marshall (11-3-1, 3-3), the match will represent a huge opportunity to secure a postseason berth after playing to a .500 record through six league matches thus far. With only the top six teams advancing to the C-USA Championships, the No. 5 seeded Herd could give itself some breathing room above the league's sixth and seventh place teams - UAB and Memphis - with 3 points against the league leaders on Sunday.
The game will also feature an added incentive for a Marshall squad that was eliminated by SMU in the opening round of last year's conference championships. After tying 1-1 in the regular season, the Mustangs defeated the Herd 4-3 in a postseason thriller to advance to the semifinals of the tournament.
Marshall is 2-5-1 all-time against SMU and has not defeated the Mustangs since 2009. Live stats during the match may be followed by clicking the link below.
