HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall women's basketball concludes its weekend road trip with a game against East Carolina in Greenville, N.C. The Herd tips off against the Pirates at 2:00 p.m. ET on Sunday.
After recently taking a loss against the top team in Conference USA, Marshall (13-10, 4-6 C-USA) will be facing the last placed team in league play. ECU (6-17, 0-10 C-USA) is still searching for their first conference win of the season.
The Herd looks to break a two game losing streak after taking losses to UAB and UTEP in its last two games. In Thursday's loss against UTEP, Marshall held a one point lead at halftime, but was unable to contain the Miner offense in the second half and took a 64-56 loss.
Marshall's defense is limiting teams to 55.8 points per game, ranking No. 49 nationally. The Herd has a strong report on the boards, averaging a plus-6.2 rebounding margin for the season. As a team, Marshall is shooting 38.1 percent from the field and marks a 31.1 percent average from behind the arc.
Erica Woods leads Marshall with 7.1 points per game and also has a team-high 139 rebounds. The sophomore forward is shooting over 45.0 percent from the field and averages the most minutes on the team with 27.4.
East Carolina is looking to break a 14-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon. The Pirates' last win came against Jacksonville on December 18. Despite the losing streak, ECU has a strong defense as the Pirates are No. 2 in the Conference in 3-Pt. defense and No. 3 in steals. The Pirates are also forcing its opposition to turn the ball over more than 20 times a game.
Chareya Smith leads ECU with 9.8 points and is shooting nearly 45.0 percent from the field for the season. Britny Edwards leads ECU on the boards with 7.7 rebounds per game and has a team-high 32 blocks for the year.
