This was the 17th meeting all-time between the two schools and Marshall now holds a 12-5 advantage in the series record.
Marshall snapped a two-game losing streak and has now won its last two home games.
The Herd improved to 7-1 at home versus East Carolina all-time.

Team Notes:
Marshall outrebounded East Carolina (25-24) despite grabbing only 25 boards, a season low. Marshall's previous low was 27 against West Virginia (1/18).
The Herd led 36-35 at the halftime break and improved to 14-2 this season when doing so.
Marshall went on a 16-1 run over the span of 4:15 in the second half to put the Herd up by 14 with 6:02 remaining. Within that run, Marshall went 4-for-5 from three point range and strung together 11 straight points.
Marshall responded to an early deficit when they went on an 8-0 run in 2:37 to eliminate an eight point ECU lead.
Individual Notes
Damier Pitts scored a season high 27 points and passed Marshall great Hal Greer (1,377) on the all-time scoring list. Pitts currently ranks as the Herd's 18th leading scorer with 1,391 career points. His free throws with 15:59 left in the second half gave him numbers 1,377, 78, and 79.
Chris Martin scored a career-high nine points on 3-of-6 shooting, all from three-point range. His three assists and 22 minutes were also career bests.
Shaquille Johnson scored 14 points and passed #36 John Milhoan (1,122) and #35 Keith Veney (1,125) on the all-time scoring list. Johnson now has 1,126 career points. His six assists was a season high. He had two blocked shots which tied a career high.
Johnson also tied Tirrell Baines at third on the games-played list (124).
Pitts is tied for 12th in the same category, having played in 113 games.
