RICHMOND, Va.- Back in the ITA National Team Rankings for the first time since late February, the No. 72 ranked Marshall University women's tennis team will travel to the Thalhimer Tennis Center on Saturday for a noon matchup with the VCU Rams.
The Thundering Herd is 10-6 for the season and riding a seven match win streak that includes back-to-back road wins over Winthrop and East Carolina, and most recently, a 6-1 pummeling of Eastern Kentucky in Huntington.
VCU is also in good form at the moment, winning 4-3 over Wake Forest and 6-1 over Temple in its most recent matches. Overall, the No. 50 ranked Rams are 11-4 on the season and an impressive 9-1 at home, but will enter Saturday's match on tired legs after hosting Georgia State on Friday afternoon.
The Herd and the Rams most recently faced each other in a January 29 match at the regional stage of the ITA National Indoor Tournament in Chapel Hill, N.C., earlier this season. VCU came away a 5-1 winner, as junior Dominika Zaprazna won the Herd's only point on the day with a 6-3, 6-1 win over VCU number one Josefin Hjertquist.
Marshall's number one doubles team of Zaprazna and sophomore Maria Voscekova also won its match, but VCU won the other two matches to claim the lone doubles point. The Herd tandem is 12-3 on the season, and a win over VCU on Saturday would go a long way in reestablishing the Slovakian duo as one of the top pairings in the nation.
Following Saturday's noon match against VCU, the Herd will remain in Richmond for a neutral-site, noon showdown with Old Dominion University on Sunday. Live stats will not be available for either match, but complete results and recaps will be available on herdzone.com at the end of each day.
