IRVING, Texas- Twenty athletic teams from Conference USA schools received the NCAA Public Recognition Award, based on the NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores released this past Thursday.

Amongst those teams receiving the honor was Marshall University's very own Thundering Herd tennis team, who concluded the 2011-12 season with a 13-10 record and a perfect 7-0 mark at home. The team also boasted several players who were top-performers in the classroom, placing no less than seven ladies on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. Sophomore Maria Voscekova even earned a spot on the C-USA All-Academic Team after posting an impressive 3.72 GPA in the classroom.

The APR score used to determine qualification for this award provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester or quarter by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention, and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport.

"Academic achievement is fundamental for us and we are pleased to see our academic progress rates continue to rise," said C-USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky. Marshall University, C-USA, and the NCAA are happy to recognize the Thundering Herd women's tennis team for its efforts both on and off the court this past season.
