MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia State Games concluded Saturday, and the Marshall swimming and diving team finished in second place with a 682.0 final score.

"It was a challenging day today with a schedule that did not permit any recovery time except for lunch," coach Bill Tramel said. "We literally went to lunch and returned to the pool for session 3. We showed obvious fatigue, but really had toughness in the last relay."

Host school WVU took first with a 1292.0, and Wheeling Jesuit University finished behind Marshall with a 486.0 complete score in the eight-team tournament .

"We started to execute some details today," Tramel said. "We still have work to do before our home opener Oct. 26, so our staff is looking forward to getting back to practice and teaching."

The Herd finished second in the 400-Free Relay with freshman Teel Hartmann (Louisville, Ky.), junior Kaley Gregory (Hurricane, W.Va.) and seniors Tiffany Aeling (Columbus, Ohio) and Sarah Kay (Cape Town, South Africa) finished with a 3:45.68 time.

After three sessions of competition, the Herd finished:

Tiffany Aeling: 53.0 - 100-yard Free (55.70), 200-yard Fly (2:16.14), 400-yard Free Relay (3:45.68)
Kaley Gregory: 59.0 - 200-yard Free (1:57.52), 800-yard Free Relay (8:05.74), 100-yard Free (56.51), 200-yard Fly (2:18.54), 400-yard Free Relay (3:45.68)
Teel Hartmann: 45.0 - 100-yard Free (58.06), 400-yard Free Relay (3:45.68)
Sarah Kay: 34.0 - 100-yard Free (57.41), 400-yard Free Relay (3:45.68)
Madison Lawhorn: 45.0 - 100-yard Free (58.08), 200-yard Breast (2:30.74), 400-yard Free Relay (3:53.50)
Victoria Mesner: 22.0 - 100-yard Free (59.49), 200-yard Fly (2:16.51), 400-yard Free Relay (3:53.50)
